Rev. Gardner Havis was the first person to try and start a work in Jena. During that time Rev. A. D. Varnado preached a two week Brush Arbor Revival. Several received the Holy Ghost and were baptized in Jesus Name. In 1949 Rev. W. E. Gamblin preached a tent revival on High School Street. At the close of the tent revival, Rev. J. D. Parker founded the First United Pentecostal Church of Jena at the present location in Jena, Louisiana!
